Custom Tattoo in Waikiki — One-of-a-Kind Work

Quick Answer

Every piece Spade creates is custom — designed for you, never repeated. Bring your idea and he'll create something unique. Located at Hilton Hawaiian Village.

What Custom Actually Means

In the tattoo industry, "custom" gets used loosely — sometimes it just means the artist re-drew a design they've done fifty times with your name on it. Spade's version of custom means something more specific: every piece is designed from scratch, for you, in collaboration with your vision. It won't appear in another client's portfolio. It won't be recycled. It's yours.

This matters more than it might seem. A tattoo you'll wear for decades deserves to be as individual as you are. Off-the-shelf flash has its place — but for anything with personal meaning, the custom process produces a result that flash never can.

The Collaboration Process

Custom work starts with a conversation, not a needle. Spade will ask:

  • What's the concept or idea behind the piece?
  • What style are you drawn to? (Realism, illustrative, fine line, geometric?)
  • Where on your body, and what size?
  • Are there reference images — photos, art, anything that captures the feeling you want?
  • Is there personal meaning you want the design to reflect?

From there, he develops the design — a sketch or digital drawing that captures your vision and translates it into a tattooable composition. You review it, request changes, and approve it before anything permanent happens.

Why Custom Takes Longer (and Costs More)

Custom work requires design time before the session begins. That design work is part of the investment. When you pay for a custom tattoo, you're paying for:

  • An original drawing created specifically for your piece
  • The artist's creative vision and technical translation of your concept
  • Adjustments and revisions until the design is right
  • A session calibrated to execute that specific design correctly

This is why custom tattoos cost more than flash — and why they're worth it. You're not buying a product; you're commissioning a piece of art permanently installed on your body.

How to Start

Fill out the booking form at spade.tattoo/booking with your concept, placement, approximate size, and any reference images. Spade will review and respond with questions, timeline, and pricing. For visitors with a short window, mention your dates — he'll work to fit the consultation and session into your trip.

For walk-in custom requests, come in during studio hours (10AM–10PM) with your reference and idea. Simpler custom pieces may be achievable same-day; more complex work will be scheduled into an available slot.
